Reflective Images has introduced a new line of 18K gold over sterling silver two-tone bridal designs in their 2006-2007 catalogs. Each ring is fabricated from sheet gold and silver that is formed and stamped by one of the companies five highly skilled jeweler.
The pieces, retailing mostly between $250 and $600, are aimed at the entry level of the bridal market. In most cases, the design goes all the way around the ring. Many of the rings can be produced in 18K yellow gold or variations of gold and silver. The designs can be accented by diamonds and colored gems.
“Many people at the entry level of the bridal market are tired of the commercial bands and want a handmade product with great design,” said Marc, Choyt, president of the company. “While many wedding rings are made wax carved by a machine, these pieces are made by hand using techniques indigenous to the American Southwest. They are stand out in today’s market as completely unique.”
The new designs are by Helen Chantler, lead designer for the company. Though contemporary in style, her work is a fusion of motifs inspired by the ancient civilizations where she has traveled—from the early indigenous tribes of Europe, to the Himalayan villages along the Silk Road, to back pack trips in the remote Colorado Rockies. Some of the floral ornamentation is based on early Khmer art from a visit to Angkor Watt in Cambodia this past spring.
Reflective Images, was founded in 1995 by Helen Chantler and Marc Choyt, a husband and wife team. Recently, the company, which employs eleven people, was named one of the top five businesses in the City of Santa Fe by the Mayor and City Counselors, based on their treatment of employees, charitable contributions to the community and progressive business model. They were also just named for the second consecutive year, a “superior supplier” by O.C. Tanner Company-- an award given to just three out of three hundred companies.
Helen Chantler grew up in England and the Far East before learning to make jewelry in Santa Fe. Marc Choyt, handles the company’s marketing, public relations and website development.
